The Prince of the Eels, Unagi, is they say, the epitome of what it means to be Eel. He is a scaleless conniving two-face who closely guards his inner feelings and is very good at manipulating others to think and feel what he wants. He also carries a great deal of guilt, and the heavy burden of being the ruler of the Eels and trying to follow in his father's wake weighs heavily on his shoulders. Despite this his Eels follow him unquestioningly, they know that he has the best interests of his people at heart. Perhaps no one loves his people as much as Unagi does, he is still infuriated by the unfair treatment his people have been dealt in the past and wants to show the world that Eels are not actually what everyone seems to think they are.

Unagi lost his father at a very young age and was thrust into the position of ruler ever since. He was raised by the circle of advisors to King Anago until he was old enough to rule on his own, but the emotional scar it left never healed. Unagi now has trouble with the concept of love.


ANAGO

King Anago was the first king of the Eels, a true hero to his people. He founded the fledgling kingdom almost entirely by his own hand, uniting each nomad clan of Eels until all the people were united, then carving out a kingdom for them between other claimed ocean "lands" and teaching his people to defend its borders. He could be extremely ruthless, had to be in order to accomplish what he did, but he was also very understanding and in fact respectful to others in his own ways. Once his kingdom was big enough to support his kindred he stopped expanding it, and dedicated all resources to making sure each Eel could live a full, rich, healthy life.

Anago both feared and respected the Orcan kingdom, mostly because here was a foe he could never hope to defeat. Eels do not stand a chance against Orcans in open combat, so that border was one that could not be budged. So instead he worked toward making sure the Orcans would respect his kind in turn, and he thoroughly disapproved of any Eel trying to steal from an Orcan.

After proclaiming himself king, Anago had a single son, the first prince of the Eels, Prince Unagi. When Unagi was born Anago was still expanding the kingdom, and Unagi was witness to some of the more horrible things the Eels had to do when small local villages refused to relocate or be assimilated. King Anago died when Unagi was eight, there is great controversy as to how he died, the story is different everywhere you go.


SCAMPLE

Unagi's personal servant (and probably # 1 fan), Scample is a young shrimp girl with more than two arms and evem more confidence. She waits on Unagi night and day, taking care of his every need and whim. She downright adores the Eel prince no matter how much he teases or threatens her. The truth is he never actually hurts her, no matter what he may say, and is rather grateful for her presence.

Some think young Scample is a slave, no one really knows for sure except that the people who know her know she would never leave Unagi even when presented the chance. Why all the devotion to such a slimy person? The truth is something of a guarded secret among the Eel higher ups.

What Scample only knows is that when she was a baby, young prince Unagi singlehandedly saved her from a terrible monster that attacked her village. Because of him she was the only survivor, and since her family died he took her in and took care of her. This is why she loves him so much, in her eyes he is the absolute hero and her adopted family.

The truth about that "monster" would probably shatter her world... It makes Unagi shudder to think about, he hopes he never has to explain the truth to her.


GIBBI

Gibbi is a catfish mermaid in her early twenties who has worked at the palace of Orca for some time. Her family immigrated to Orca from far away seas, and she still carries the kind hospitable sensibilities of their country home. She's very open with her feelings and loves just about everybody.


CINNABELLE

Cinnabelle is a quiet squid-girl born of the local species. She is mature and reserved about all things in life, perfectly suited to be a maid at the royal palace. Her six tentacles also give her a working edge over everyone else who has only two arms! Cinnabelle struck up a friendship with Gibbi, the two compliment each other rather well, and are often seen hanging out together outside the palace.
